Inca Trail to Machu Picchu | 4 DAYS - 3 NIGHTS
Day 01: Cusco KM 82 to Wayllabamba.
After breakfast you will be transferred to 82km. Here you will join the group who will be trekking with you; your porters will weigh all bags to ensure they only carry the correct amount. The first walk is relatively easy as you follow the Vilcanota River with spectacular views of the snow-capped peaks of mount Veronica , before arriving at the archaeological centre of Patallacta for lunch. After lunch you will continue on to Huayllabamba where your porters will have set up the camp and have a welcoming hot drink waiting for you. Tonight you will spend your first night under the Inca stars.
Day 02: Wayllabamba | Warmihuañusca | Pacamayo.
This morning you will break camp and start one of the most strenuous paths of the trek. You will climb steadily to Wuarmihuanisca at 4200 meters where you take your lunch. While you enjoy your meal you will be treated to spectacular views of the surrounding scenery. Continuing your trek you will make the easier descent to Pacamayo valley and once again set up camp for the night.
Day 03: Pacamayo | Wiñay Wayna.
After breakfast you will take a 30 min walk to the archaeological centre of Runquracay. From this point onwards you will be climbing in the footsteps of the Incas as we now enter the paved pathway that ends in Machu Picchu itself. On the way you will discover Sayacmarca a fine Inca ruin before entering the tunnel, which brings you out at Phuyupatamarca. The flagstone trail winds sharply down into the cloud forest and the ruins of Wiñay Wayna. These are located below the ridge on the same river as that of the previous site, and are well restored. Here we will make camp for our last night under the Inca stars.
Day 04: Machu Picchu.
A very early start will be rewarded with spectacular views of Machu Picchu at the break of dawn. A two-hour walk through the cloud forest enveloped Inca Trail, entering the site as the Incas did, at the foot of Intipunku | ‘The Sun Gate'. From here you will descend down in to the ruined city of Machu Picchu . Your guide will bring to life the mysteries and stories surrounding this amazing citadel before you are free to take your own walk of exploration. You will then transfer back to Cuzco to your hotel to enjoy a well deserved rest.
